Instrumentation for the measurement of partial discharge

The partial discharges must be detected with high precision by specific devices

The measure of partial discharges is necessary to avoid compromising the proper functioning of the rotating machinery at high voltage (electric engines, hydroelectric generators, wind turbines).

In these types of machines a certain level of partial discharges is admitted, however, the statistics indicate as second cause of failure in the motors and generators.

Partial discharge can also occur at any point of the insulation system of the stators and must be monitored.

For partial discharge measurements on rotating machines can use two methods:
  • measurement using portable analyzers which are able to separate the noise from the partial discharge signals
  • measurement by coupling capacitors used as partial discharge sensors
GIGA TECH sells measuring partial discharge device of MC-monitoring, a Swiss company specializing in the supply of systems for monitoring and diagnostics of rotating machinery.
